History, mission and values

Founded in 1969, Plastic Age has stood out for its expertise in injection molding and plastic engineering. We combine service and innovation to provide our partners with tailor-made solutions that suit their needs.

1969
Following a client's request, Richard Smolka began developing his own plastic injection molding machine. Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Smolka founded Plastic Age as an answer to the evolving needs of the industry.
1977
Mark Smolka, the son of founder Richard Smolka, takes over and brings a new dynamic of growth to the company.
1979
The company expands with the acquisition of its first 22,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint-Léonard, marking a strategic turning point.
1988
A major expansion with the construction of a 60,000 sq. ft. facility in Montreal, strategically located near the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine tunnel. This period also saw the beginning of monofilament manufacturing, opening up new production opportunities.
2000
At the turn of the 2000s, Plastic Age reaffirmed its commitment to quality by obtaining ISO 9001 certification.
2001
The expansion continued with the enlargement of the facility to 122,000 sq. ft., strengthening our ability to meet the industry's growing demands.
2004
Obtaining the UL746D certification further confirms our commitment to compliance and excellence.
2015
The Plastic Age team has reached a new level, with over 250 employees working around the clock, 24/7, serving a client base of 150 customers with more than 600 products in production.
2022
The company is entering the electrification market.
2025
Robotic innovation in the monofilament department. Commissioning of our largest machine to date, a 2700-ton press.

Equipped with 30 presses ranging from 40 to 2700 tons, our company has unique production capabilities in the industry. Our modern facility enables us to carry out large-scale plastic processing projects for specific applications as well as monofilament extrusion.
